November 18th's lesson on February 17...

Still trying to do 2.1. Yeesh, no time for anything...
Anyhow, I investigated Lulu and Picasa. A friend of mine loves Picasa, but I hadn't yet checked into it. Now that I have, I am eager to begin using that in place of the Kodak easyshare I have at home. And Lulu appears to be what my daughter's friend may have used to create her wedding album. I would LOVE to make photobooks of my vacation! How cool would that be? So, first I need to get set up on Picasa, then head over to Lulu!
'til next time...

January 29th, 2009

So, I am wayyy behind, but I do plan to get through this!

Our Mission Statement...
I think 'continuous innovation' resonates with me the most. This is the key, keeping our services and offerings to the public fresh and cutting edge. And that in turn is what will keep people coming back and keep them engaged with the library system. It is a positive cycle for the public and for us. From the programs we offer to the new games we are about to get in, there is something to appeal to every age and sector of the community. This is something we need to continue to strive for, for libraries to expand and thrive.

Technology and Information 2.1 blog

How has technology affected the way I utilize accessing information... hmmm... well, let's see... I look many more things up on line because of the ease of finding specific information. Sometimes that works for me, sometimes not so well. There is so very much information out there that you have to do a lot of wading sometimes. Then too, there is so much interesting stuff along the way that it is easy to get distracted as well. Online resources are more often now my first stop in seeking answers, definintely (though NOTHING will ever replace BOOKS!).

As for how this effects the future role of the library, I don't really know. I am sure the library system will find a way to evolve and involve to meet the demands of change. At least I fervently hope so!

Back again so soon...

Health, wellness and technology.
I now want a Wii very badly!!! That just looks like an absolute blast. I can try asking Santa, but it's probably out of his budget, what with inflation exceedingly taking a bigger and bigger bite of things. Ah well, something to hope for anyhow. The Nike+ is very high tech and cool, but I don't do the great outdoors much. Shun the sun, questionable neighborhood, so that's not for me. Google map... see previous sentence. The Nutritiondata site looks helpful, that could be fun and educational to explore! The About.com fitness walking site wouldn't load, so I didn't check that one out. All, in all, there is some very cool technology out there these days.
Ta for now...

Reintroduction

I'm trying this again. The last time I wrote, week before last now (?), I ran out of time and could not for the life of me seem to send my url to the correct address. Frustrating. I'm quite sure it was something I was doing wrong, it usually is, but it kept saying there was no account for simpson.thomas@ocls.info, or some error like that anyways. Reintroducing myself... hmm, Karen Sutherland, and I work the paging list here at main. I have been here about a year and a half now. Married, 3 kids, 3 dogs and 3 cats. There's the basics : ) What do I hope to get out of 2.1? To become more fluent and at ease with getting around in cyberspace, knowing what is available and as importantly, being able to access it, so that I can share it as well!

YEAH ME!!! (lol)

Th Th That's all folks! I am finished! I uploaded my picture to my Flickr account. It's titled 'The View'. I was expecting that to be more difficult than it was, it was quite easy. Wow, I am so excited to have completed the course! I think online learning is great, but being strapped for time and a procrastinator at heart in addition, means I do need deadlines to get it done. Now I am patiently waiting for my MP3 player! Woo Hoo....
